Hi.

Welcome to my little blog! Here I am in my sewing room, I hope you'll stay a while and see what there is to see.

The Traveling Dresser

Happy Monday!

Today I get to share with you a set of vintage furniture that I have had the pleasure of working on for the past week and a half. When I was asked to do this set of furniture I was excited but also a little nervous knowing I had a small time frame to complete three pieces. The family would be moving across the country and if I didn't finished it would be bad news!! So I set to work stripping and painting and even got to do a little sewing in the process! This dresser has been all over the world traveling with this wonderful military family and is 40+ years old. It was painted yellow many years ago and my client wanted to expose the wood underneath and unlock its true beauty. Luckily Rachel was in town and gave me hand helping me strip the majority of the dresser. We had plans to strip the chair but it just wasn't letting go of its paint so instead we gave it a fresh coat of white paint and did some dark wax to distress it. I also recovered the chair and got to test out my skills with piping and drop cloth. It was a great set of furniture and has definitely broadened my skill set.  I did some research along the way learning some new tricks in the process to help me in the future. After stripping the dresser I used an oil based stain in the color dark walnut and sealed the entire surface with Miss Mustard Seeds Hemp oil. The hemp oil really finished off the piece and gave it a polished look. I did the same steps to the mirror and its frame. I also love the knobs the M family picked out. The map knobs couldn't be more fitting! Ignore my terrible pictures. I didn't have time to stage this set and take pictures do to lack of time but I think you can get the general idea any way! Enjoy! This set is now loaded in a moving truck and ready to take off on its next journey!
